Australian singer, songwriter and guitarist Corinne Gibbons' warm and accessible style is perfectly captured on her latest album MELT, a rich palette of pop and jazz with a Celtic twist! Classic songwriting skills, smooth sultry vocals, Corinne sings of love, loss and the planet we live in. Her passionate storytelling and her acute ability to make everyone in her audience feel like she is singing to them personally makes her a simply stunning entertainer.
With a voice compared to music legends like Colbie Caillat and Eva Cassidy, and even as the female version of Damien Rice, Corinne Gibbons has built a loyal following in many parts of the world during the past eight years. She sung with Jack Sonni of Dire Straits before she was 20, went on to record with Tower of Power in Los Angles, sang with Red Holt of the Ramsey Lewis Trio and was even a guest artist with the Count Basie Big Band in New York!
Corinne started her career at a tender age of 14 in her hometown of Bega in a rock band called O’Donnell Brothers, and while at university sang lead vocals in an all girl rock band Pash. After graduating (in music ...), Corinne moved to Melbourne and immediately won the PBS Jazz Award and her first recording contract and soon started as lead singer in the popular Melbourne band Banquet.
She next moved to Sydney where she joined the wildly popular all-girl rock band Skirt, which produced a hit single and went on to a sell-out tour of Australia. After a couple of years with Skirt, Corinne went solo in 2000.
Corinne’s breathtaking album Dusk was her first solo recording. A collection of original songs inspired by her favourite time of the day, the smooth jazz album debuted to critical acclaim on the independent jazz charts, and peaked at No.2. She received rave reviews from both the media in Australia, and accolades from music peers, which led to a successful tour of Australia and Japan.
Corinne’s own music publishing label Secret Street was formed in 2000, focusing on world and indigenous music. Secret Street also published her live album Sunday Afternoon in 2001, which was dedicated to the many fans who frequented her residency at The Shakespeare in Sydney. The limited edition album sold out within days.
In 2006 Corinne moved to Singapore to extend her reach to other parts of the world. Inspired by her changed surroundings, she recorded her critically acclaimed new album MELT, and started Singapore Sing, a corporate teambuilding company which provides programs incorporating choral singing as a tool to inspire and energize staff. She also brought Club Acoustica to the Red Sea Gallery at Dempsey Hill, an evening affair which showcases original music from both local and foreign talent, with tributes to great musical favourites, combined with fine food and wine.
Travelling from Singapore, Corinne has performed in places as diverse as Toronto in Canada, Stonehenge in the UK, Jaipur in India, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong in China, Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand, LA and New York in the US, Bali and Nikoi in Indonesia, back in Australia in all the major cities, and of course in Singapore. This year she performed at the Silver Screen Awards, will tour Australia and North America where her Album MELT has been accepted into no less than seven film festivals. She will perform at the opening of the Hamptons Film Festival outside New York in September.
In her spare time Corinne writes kids music, kick boxes and loves to cook.
