PS Cafe at Dempsey Hill

I've been to PS Cafe at Palais Renaissance so many times … and actually never went to visit their sister outlet at Dempsey … even though I'm there quite frequently!

Well, it's my new favourite hang-out … especially for a lazy casual Sunday brunch.  The design is completely open, blending nicely into the very green and lush jungle surrounding.  I already knew the brunch menu is great from their other outlets … but … don't forget to order their signature dish:  french fries with truffles!  The order is not for the faint at heart … it's a copious order, enough for three :-)  But it's yummy, yummy, yummy.

And they have wonderful cakes … including a flour-less orange cake.  Biting my lips now …

Also great for dinner.

 

Boomarang Bistro

Want to hang out with the Ozzies for a Sunday brunch?  Then this is the place to be :-)  Boomarang offers a casual setting for a very relaxed brunch.  Sitting right on Robertson Quay, feel the breeze sweep past you as you dig into that King Prawn salad.

Picotin at Turf Club City

Just came back from brunch at Picotin at Turf City ... and other than it being very hot on the terrace ... which is hardly their fault for it's been stinking hot in Singapore lately and sometimes even fans can't help ... I really enjoyed the brunch.

We were at a gala dinner last night where I had way to much to eat and drink ... and due to that I just had a goat cheese salad.  However, the pizzas they were carrying around looked delish!  And that's definitely what I'm going to try next time.

It's an interesting place for the whole locale has to do with horses.  Picotin has a great outdoor sitting area ... and right across from it you have these old stables with various shops in them.  It looked like work areas for kiddy programs, playgrounds and yoga centres to me ... but not sure.

One complaint though ... they were completely understaffed!  It took them forever to bring us additional cappuccinos.  We actually went from asking 1, to 2, to 3 coffees, for every time we reminded them re the ordered coffees, someone else at our table decided to join in with an extra order.  Soon ... we were all waiting for our coffee!

Need to get the staffing under control!

P.S. Cafe for a casual brunch

Sometimes on Sundays, as hard as it is to believe, you simply don't want a champagne brunch!  And that's how I discovered PS Cafe.

Wanted a great and casual brunch close to Orchard Road ... which lead me to the Palais Renaissance PS Cafe.  I love their terrace overlooking the Thai Embassy.  You're sitting outside, but since it's a large covered terrace you're not boiling in the scorching sun.

And what do I recommend?  Definitely the Croque Monsieur!  And even though it's most probably what an Italian would call 'una bomba calorica' ... a calorie bomb ... it's the perfect thing for a Sunday brunch.

Lunches are also great ... highly recommend the King Prawn Caesar salad.  And if you're in their Paragon outlet, definitely the turkey cranberry sandwich.  Yummy!

Haven't tried out their Dempsey Hill joint ... but will give it a shot soon.

in Line for brunch

Yesterday I discovered another great brunch that is making it into my top 5 brunch list in Singapore.

The Line at Shangri-La Hotel is superb.  The design is crisp and clean and white, the buffet selection outstanding, the presentation of the food makes you never want to stop coming back for seconds and thirds ... and when we got the bill, we were surprised how reasonable the whole thing was.

So if you don't know where to go for brunch next weekend ... get into The Line!

My favourite brunches

There's nothing like having a great brunch on Sunday, even though you know that your whole day will be shot after the endless champagne that you've drunk.

So, where do I go to find scrumptious food and ever-flowing champagne?

> Sentosa Resort - The Terrace: Ask to be seated on the terrace. What I love about this place is that after brunch you can use their pool till 1700. It makes for a wonderful day of eating and lounging by a beautiful pool. And if you still have energy after all this, go to KM8 on Tanjong beach right below or head to Cafe del Mar on Siloso beach, to watch the sunset while listening to some groovy music!

> Ritz-Carlton - Greenhouse restaurant: although inside, the space is vast and very airy. And the champagne really never stops flowing! 

> Flutes at the Fort: although an a la carte menu, having brunch here on Sunday is delightful.

> Jones / Culina: the restaurants are located side-by-side on Dempsey Hill and are perfect for a casual Sunday brunch. Make sure you sit outside on the verandah, underneath all the ceiling fans. No reservations required - if one is full you just walk to the other!

> Equinox: the view is stunning from the 70th floor. And that's worth something! Ask to get a table right by the window.

> Cafe Beviamo: for a very casual and quick breakfast/brunch, Beviamo is the place. It's located in Tanglin Mall (163 Tanglin Road #02-K1, Tel +65 6738 7906) and has a wonderful breakfast menu. My favourite is the scrambled eggs with a side dish of avocado and goat cheese. And the coffee ... one of the best in Singapore.

> Senso Ristorante: This was a true find! Sometimes you want to go for a great brunch on Sunday with friends, drink lots of champagne (prosecco in this case) and not pay an arm-and-a-leg! This is the place. Located in Chinatown, Senso has a great Sunday buffet brunch and it's priced very, very well. I still find it hard to believe that they were able to make any money off of our group ... we were there for 4.5 hours and let's just say that we were 'very thirsty'! The little inner courtyard is a wonderful place to sit, but it does get very hot even though it's covered by an awning. My preference is always sitting outside, but the inside is air-conditioned and equally nice.
