Today was one of those days that I will always remember. And my aunt and uncle will too!
My neighbour told me how she and her husband went to this fish spa place the other day, where you stick your feet into a jacuzzi and then the fish swim up to you and start eating all your dead skin. She literally put it that way.
I wondered to myself what is she talking about! She told me to go check it out ... so I did. And since my mum, aunt and uncle are visiting ... I dragged them along.
Kenko Reflexology and Fish Spa has several outlets but we went to the one at the Singapore Flyer. When we got there, we saw three big fish tanks with a ledge around all of them. Each tank had fish of either small, medium or large size. They all perform the same function ... eat the dead-skin of your feet and with their suction-action assist with blood circulation. The difference is that the small fish you barely feel ... while the big ones ... well, they literally suck on your skin and toes.

I have to say we were squirmish when we first put our feet in. It's a terribly unpleasant thought of putting your feet into a tank full ... and I mean thousands ... of fish, that will eventually eat your dead skin ... for 30 whole minutes. We were laughing from the thought of what we were doing and from the ticklish feeling. We tried to pull our feet out ... but I insisted we keep them in. Bit by bit, you get used to it ... and then for the last 20 minutes you just calmly sit there while the little fishies nibble at your skin and do their job. The professional word for this, we were told, is exfoliation. Of course the tourists passing by just stare at you with admiration.
Funny enough, just writing this I can feel the fish sucking on my toes ... amazing!
Moreover, the attendant also gives you a 10 minute back and shoulder massage while you're 'dipping' your feet.

We initially went there for the attraction ... but I have to admit that when done, our feet felt light, you could feel your blood circulating and pumping ... and you actually felt great.
Even better ... they told me that the Tanglin Shopping Centre location will soon have single and couple's pools where you go in fully. So the fishes work on your full body. For the brave at heart!
So guess what? I'm coming back! And I intend to bring a lot of my guests here. They're bound to remember Singapore with this experience :-)
And if you're wondering where this idea came from? Turkey ... is where it all started.
